Millions of peaches, peaches for me
We just read from the Shanghai Daily an article on Shanghai's famous peaches. But before we get to that, can we be bitch about the near nonsensical lead paragraph of this story?
PEACHY keen -- that's what Chinese peaches are -- the essence of the peach. Now you can buy bounty online. High-tech meets the ancient Chinese fruit of art and literature -- and you can eat the luscious fruit this summer. Check it out: the historic fruit is as mouthwatering today as it was thousands of years ago.
Nanhui District farmers are selling their fruit online this summer to attract more customers.
The article is actually about the new trend of selling peaches online. However, the website that the author refers to -- 51peach.com -- doesn't really sell peaches. OK, it should, but it doesn't -- they are having some technical difficulties and all you can really do is send them an email. However, as the article says, the peaches will be hitting the city in July, and supposedly have a unified (that means one and only one) brand. We'll have to "check it out" when we get the chance.
In the meantime, you can read about the illustrious history of peaches in Shanghai and the surrounding regions here. And if you find you can't bide the time between now and whenever they show up at the local market, just order them by the caseful from Wuxi on Alibaba.
