Miniature golf comes to Shanghai

Ever felt like you want to “escape from the modern city of Shanghai”? And drench yourself in “a captivating jungle experience unlike any other?” If your answer is “yes” and “yes”, then we have heard of just the spot for you. No, it’s not the wilds of Tanzania, nor the Amazon Rainforest -- we are, of course, talking about the newly opened Lucky Greens Miniature Golf Course, located on the sixth floor of the Cloud 9 Mall, right next to the Zhongshan Park metro stop.

How’s that an “escape” from Shanghai you ask? Good question. And a “captivating jungle experience” in a freaking mall? Point taken. Alright, there is still the miniature golf part, which is the real/only reason why we’re telling you about this place.

Shanghaiist loves miniature golf and we remember fondly our exploits playing putt-putt in our high school years. Lucky Green’s website tells us that the course is “filled with undulating hills, banked shots, bridges and other obstacles”, but and artist's rendition (see above) from that same site shows nothing of the sort, and the photos that do exist don't look like they were taken inside a mall in Shanghai, so we’d temper our expectations. While we don’t know how much a round costs, the website does say that college kids get a discount(with valid ID) and pay only 25 kuai, so the regular price shouldn’t be too far above that mark.

Luck Greens also features an indoor driving range cage, as well as a snack bar with treats for both the health conscious and triglyceride freaks.

Shanghaiist just might check it out this weekend, and if all goes well, a Lucky Greens Happy Hour isn’t out of the question. But can indoor miniature golf be any fun? (Or is the sixth floor the roof?)

Lucky Greens is located on the sixth floor of the Cloud 9 Mall, 1018 Changning Lu, reachable by metro lines 2, 3, 4. Paid parking is availabe. Email: info@luckygreens.com.

In an E-mail from the owner today: "The hours are 11:30 am to 10 pm everyday. Before our grand opening (which is in a couple weeks) its completely free play so definitely come on by. eddie"

I was there yesterday. It was indeed free, although it still needs some work before it's ready. There're also driving nets if you want to swing a club at some golf balls.

  • Does being an american graduate student count? Otherwise i will just have to find a nearby wall and call the banzheng number. I think Fudan is my style.

  • RMB 35 w/o ID. Free through the 31st with a coupon, which we were told would only be handed out on the first couple of days, but which I saw being handed out today in the lower levels of the mall.

Thanks, sounds pretty nice, will def. go check it out. Any idea, how much a round cost for those of us w/o a college ID?

  • Whoa, so a story was written on thie place just based on artist's renditions and site photos? No offense intended, but given that its in Shanghai and in a rather convenient place to get to, you really ought to go by there and check it out. That's ok, I will save you the trip. I did go, and here's my 2 cents (saves me from writing it in my own blog ;).)

Lucky Greens, the first miniature golf course in Shanghai, located in Cloud Nine Mall above the new Carrefour ZhongShan Park. With 18 holes, this course is a mix between a putt putt course for kids and a standard outdoor min golf course in the states. BUT this course is INDOORS and very importantly, it is fully AIR CONDITIONED! :)

Good for families, kids, and those like me who still think like a kid. Best bet would be to go out and see the course itself. Very different from what I expected, but i can see how it will be a nice diversion from my usual lack of things to do, at least a couple times this summer. Kids will enjoy it as Lucky Greens has staff to teach them how and, at lest while itss a bit slow, walk them through the course.

yeah, a minigolf place in a mall sounds a bit different, but then again, this is Shanghai! :)
