  • Shanghai cuisine is set to be "improved", so that a menu can be created for Expo visitors, and they're hoping that "Shanghai snacks in the 2010 Expo will enjoy such worldwide fame as sushi, hotdog, and ice cream." The competition to create new snacks is open to the public, and they say that people can participate via Sohu.
  • You can also contribute your thoughts about the layout and other details of the Expo by taking part in the poll on the Expo site, according to Shanghai Daily. However we had a quick look around and couldn't find much about it.
  • People's Daily reported an article (from China Daily) several days ago, which bemoaned the sacrifice of old land to make way for futuristic buildings, complaining that vintage Shanghai homes were being destroyed. The article pleads for this not to be the case with the Expo site. Good luck.
  • Yet more people participation in the Expo -- you can submit your design ideas for a "global entertainment centre", which should embody the theme of the 2010 World Expo: "Better City, Better Life".
  • A man named Luo Jun used the Expo for his own benefit this year, as he tricked people into believing that he was an Expo government official, and got free stuff, including invites to karaoke bars (and possibly karaoke bar girls).
  • Not related to the Expo but related to world events held in Shanghai, the gymnastics World Cup is in Shanghai this weekend, and entry is free. It's being held in the Shanghai International Gymnastic Center, which is in Changning District (No. 777, Wuyi Road).

    The main parts of the site are in Pudong, I forgot about the Puxi parts. However I still think pleading for old ghetto areas to remain the same, or for some areas to develop to the standard people want and others to remain as they are is ... silly.

    Sorry, I edited out the Puxi part of the post before I saw Ryan's comment. Yes, Expo in both Pudong and Puxi.

    I believe the expo site is in Puxi, South of the Bund on the river, in an old Chinese 'ghetto' area. Correct me if I'm wrong?
