Shanghaiist Happy Hour V: Get out your hairspray!

shanghaiisthappyhour80s_sma.jpgDid you realize that July 28 is the 20-year anniversary -- to the day -- of July 28, 1986?!? We're glad we noticed it when we did -- because that gave us just enough time to throw together an 80s-themed Shanghaiist Happy Hour at Freelance Bar & Grill (we are cool with the place now) to mark the momentous occasion. Here's all you need to know:

What: Shanghaiist Happy Hour - “I Love the 80s”

When: Friday, July 28, 7 pm - 11 pm (that's when the special ends ... we're sure we'll stay longer than that)

Where: Freelance Bar & Grill. 45 Yueyang Lu, by Dongping Lu (岳阳路45号,近东平路)

Drink Specials: 20 RMB for Tsingtao vodka, gin, rum, bourbon, scotch and mixers. Juices and sodas, RMB 20, as well. Guinness and Strongbow draft, 50 RMB. Heineken draft, 35 RMB. House wine, 35 RMB.

Free Food: Thai Spring Rolls, Buffalo Chicken Wings, Chicken Quesadillas and Mini Portabella Mushroom Burgers.

Music: All 80s, all the time!

Clothes and Hair: Bad and big. Best 80s outfit wins a bottle of vodka, some sexy men's underwear and Shanghaiist T-shirts.

Cover Charge: Never

So start figuring out what you are going to wear (here are a few places to start ... how do you say "acid wash" in Chinese?) and we'll start getting the music together.

See you in less than two weeks!

Niclas,

You, and everyone else in Shanghai, are welcome!

All Shanghaiist Happy Hours are open to everyone. They are not private parties.

We will try to play "Happy Birthday" for you. Any good 80s versions of that?

So is there a prize for best costume or what? I need to know how hard to try.

The prize is all the attention you get for all the effort you put in.

user-pic

We actually might get a couple prizes. Stay tuned.

-Soundtracks for: Karate Kid, Back to the Future, Top Gun, Ghostbusters, Laverne and Shirley, A-Team, Gleaming the Cube, Rad, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller etc.

Ian you forgot one very crucial song - Highway to the Danger Zone.

Someone better have the Ghostbusters Theme song, otherwise I will be very angry.

user-pic

Hi Lauren, thank you for your concern....but "Danger Zone" is covered under the "Top Gun" Soundtrack (see the bottom of my post)....along with
"Take my Breath Away"-Berlin
"Mighty Wings"-Cheap Trick,
"Playing with the Boys"-Kenny Loggins
and who can forget the
"Top Gun Anthem"- Harold Faltermayer

But I did forget to mention soundtracks to
Footloose and Dirty Dancing

Take Care

Ian
