Video of the Day: China wins FIFA World Cup!

At least that’s what a clip on popular video sharing site Tudou.com claims. Shanghaiist, being the curious type, clicked over and took a gander.

The 18-minute original short film is of course a spoof, a form made popular earlier in the year by The Steam Bun Massacre, a brilliant parody of the movie 无极/The Promise.

The FIFA piece is a montage of movie clips (we’ve counted The Godfather, Forrest Gump, a few Jackie Chan flicks), past World Cup footage and scenes from a host of Chinese game shows, smartly put together to recount China’s fictional ascent to the championship. Along the way, the author/producer digitalput@ manages to poke fun at the ridiculous ineptitude of China’s national team, Japan (seemingly an eternal source/outlet for Chinese humor/frustration) and of course, that crackpot announcer guy.

Unfortunately, for many Shanghaiist readers, viewing of the clip may present somewhat of a challenge as the entire clip is set in Mandarin and, from what we can discern, a Northern dialect with no subtitles, and the flavor of the humor is decidedly local. But, do check it out anyway, there’s a three second bouncy bosom shot buried in the clip, well worth the effort.

In related news, FIFA just released its updated rankings, and China came in at a rousing 89, trouncing neighboring countries Thailand (113) and India (130), but badly lagging behind international powerhouses such as Malawi (80) and Burkina Faso (74).
