We were at The Melting Pot Monday night to see Brian Seymour play (great set ... but too short!) and a black board at the bar (pictured) made us do a double take as we looked over our pint of Carlsberg. Arm wrestling? Every Saturday? It all just seems ... we don't know ... strange. Are there any other bars in town that organize arm wrestling tournaments? On perhaps the busiest bar night of the week? Gotta give them credit for being creative.
We don't know anyone who has attended one of The Melting Pot's arm wrestling nights, but we were told what they award the winner each week -- a bottle of wine. That makes sense. If you have witnessed or, better yet, participated in one of these arm wrestling Saturday nights, please tell us about it in a comment. We definitely are curious.
And if you are planning on rolling up your sleeves this weekend and fighting your way to glory (and a nice bottle of Chablis), we'd like to leave you with a couple quotes from Over the Top, arguably the best arm wrestling movie of 1987:
Harry Bosco: My whole body is an engine. This is a fireplug [makes a fist] ... and I'm gonna light him up.Bob 'Bull' Hurley: I drive truck, break arms, and arm wrestle. It's what I love to do. It's what I do best.
Winner takes all, fellas.
