Yes, we realize we are starting to sound like a broken record (or website, for that matter). Just one week ago, we went offline (in Shanghai) for reasons that are still a mystery to us. Today, the entire Gothamist Network was down for about 11 hours -- but that was our own doing ... they unhooked the servers to do a little work. It was all only supposed to last an hour, but you know how those things go ...
The problem with being the only -ist site on this side of the globe is that when there is work to be done on, say, servers, it generally happens during Shanghai's prime time, which is sleepy time for everyone else. We could make other excuses and use big words and phrases like "forward facing boxes" and "load balanced setup" and "domain name system" and tell you the work and the one gigabyte ethernet cards and the 11 hours of downtime were all for the greater good (which we are told they are), but we won't. All we want to say is that we are sorry and we hope it never happens again. Thanks for reading Shanghaiist!

So I still have trouble posting comments. Am I the only one with that problem?
is that not a comment?
