theres no reson why anime should be banned >:( anime is awsome and is one of the best things ever i think its a dumb thing to do to ban anime! (unless its bad anime of corse i only mean anime such as; inuyasha, naruto, death note, eureka 7, full metal, ect. basically the ones they show in canada. none of those are bad.) anime is better then other stuff so thats not a good enough reson to ban it :P

well, I did watch this episode of Simpsons(season 16 i guess?), as quoted in the screen shot above. so i totally understand why these would be banned by the government...
but, doesn't matter at all. never take cartoons serious!

There should be and are truly gifted individuals in China who can make it through the rote learning and lessons in steadfast obedience (and if no one tells to you do anything, don't do anything). But those are the same rare individuals that are company VPs or start-up CEOs before 30 in the west. The "average zhou" needs an open and dynamic atmosphere, like anyone else does, and that is where cultural and educational stagnation (in the name of "chinese characteristics") does the real damage. That and anyone who invents anything can expect to have their innovation copied and on the street in a dozen chinese cities before the ink on their patent is dry, so no real profit=no real motivation.

I'm curious: the prevailing sentiment across the rest of the world (and even in China) is that China lacks 'creativity'. This seems to be borne out in all sorts of examples - chinese TV shows, cartoons, movies are not as popular their Western counterparts . . . Chinese companies and scientists are known as copiers, not innovators . . . even the Chinese soccer team is accused of not having the 'creativity' to play with the world's best.

Is this true? Or just a massive self-perpetuating myth? If its true, can it all be laid at the doorstep of the government and its educational system? HK and Taiwan and other Chinese areas have had great success creating new things . . . why not the motherland? With over a billion people how can they not have at least a few world-leading technologies or cultural phenomena (like Japanese anime or Korean genetic research). What's up? Interested to hear from both foreigners and locals.
