China's favorite NFL player: Sinorice Moss

For many Americans (and American sympathizers), August is a month for back to school shopping and spending the last weeks of summer vacation with your family preparing for your fantasy football draft. We forgot to do that, and our draft drafted over the weekend, so we were scouring the waiver wire today. One name jumped out at us:

Sinorice Moss.

Sino.

Rice.

Sinorice.

If anyone can make American football popular in China, it's a guy with a name like that -- even better, the rookie is only 5-foot-8. (We realize we are likely pronouncing "Sinorice" wrong, but forgive us, we don't see many college football broadcasts over here.)

We couldn't find anything online about the origin of Moss' first name -- perhaps his father was a member of the American-Sino Rice Scientist Association? Nah. But it's nice they named a bowl game after him.

Turns out we couldn't find a spot for Sinorice on our team. He's only the third-string WR2 on the New York Giants and a quad injury has left his status for this season "uncertain." If it's any consolation (and we're sure it's not) we did name our fantasy team after Sinorice. We are the "Sinorice Pumps" (the second part is a reference to a T-shirt we bought in Hawaii).

Back to the topic of not seeing many college football broadcasts in Shanghai -- is anyone going to fix that this year? We had heard rumblings that Freelance and Bubba's were going to try to show some games. What's the status of that? Anyone know? (Anyone else care?)
