Wikimapia is a neat Google Maps/Wikipedia mashup with a mission to "describe the whole Earth." We're most interested with the
Shanghai portion, which already has seen a bit of activity. Basically, it's an interactive map that allows anyone to label a place of interest in almost any language anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, the "maps" portion of
Google Maps doesn't work in China because ... um ... uh ... why doesn't it work here again? Satellite images will have to do for now. Maybe we'll have maps one day ...
So, go ahead: Describe your Shanghai to the rest of the Earth. (And would someone please get working on the Google Maps mashup that labels all of the city's WiFi hotspots?)
Did you have to hang around on the site for ages to load up info? Or is it just my connection?
I just left it loading for about twenty minutes and still couldn't get on to create a new location.
Worked fine for me using Firefox 1.5.x for Mac.
I dropped in several locations around Jing'an district in about 10 minutes.
Awesome.
That was the browser to go for then. I was using Safari before. Works fine in Firefox.
As you say, great tool.
Hmmm. I was using Safari and it worked fine.
