UPDATE: Show canceled?
Now that the buzz surrounding Air Supply's impending visit has died down, fans of pop music (of the non-Mando persuasion) have something else to be excited about: Robbie Williams. On November 4, the British star will bring his Close Encounters World Tour to Shanghai's Hongkou Soccer Stadium.
Perhaps one of the cockiest showmen alive today, Robbie Williams' career started in the British boy band, Take That, but really blew up after he ditched them in 1995 and had the spotlight all to himself. Mixing swaggering pop songs, stadium-sized ballads -- he even an album of old pop standards under his belt -- Robbie's popularity does not seem to be letting up, whether you enjoy his lovable off-stage buffoonery or not. Six albums into his career, he's embarking on a five month world tour in support of his 2005 release, Intensive Care, with stops in Cape Town, Dubai, Mexico City and Buenos Aires. It's his longest consecutive tour to date, which he apparently thinks is "scary". After Shanghai, Williams will make stops in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore before winding things down in Australia.
