Notes from the Underground: News and weekend preview

We will not find ways to manipulate copy to self-promote.
We will not find wa … ah fuck it.

We’re still giddy from Wednesday night’s GigLive show -- and might as well inform yous of next week's (culinary heavy) lineup:

GigLive @ Bon Bon
Wednesday, Sept 6

Mad Mushroom Brigade: nu-metal/post-punk up-and-comers
Midnight Bus: pop-rock, avec jazz & blues influence
Flying Fruit: Brit-pop/glum rock

88 kuai in the door and all you can drink.

How wicked (drink) will it be?

Yes.

Other notes:

One of our favorites, Alec and the All-Stars got a weekly Thursday night slot at Tang Hui … speaking of which, they named Morry Morgan the new GM -- which is good for a few reasons, as it gives Zooma more time to do what he does best (music) and the previously lack of organization (see: no website) should be remedied.

Ferris Wheel, having played the show-of-their-life last at Wednesday’s GigLive night rumored to be splitting up? That would make us sad.

Clear next weekend’s schedule for the 1234 Beach Rock/Summer Madness 2006 festival next weekend at Shanghai SanJa Harbor Water Paradise. Show starts Saturday (Sept. 16) at 4 pm and goes all the way until Sunday at 6 pm. A few of the 20-plus bands playing?

21g
Happysky
Fuckenrolls
Joyside
Angry Jerks
Banana Monkey
MINT
Slit

…and a shitload more. This is a massive first for Shanghai, so hope to see loads of yous there -- we’ll write more next week.

Now, picks for tonight?

  • CMCB, 9 pm at Tanghui. Self-proclaimed “first hip-hop band in China” brings their seven-man show to a four-person stage.
  • Richie Hawtin brings his minimal “Plastikman” show to Bon Bon tonight as well.

Have fun. (And don't forget to add your gig's to our calendar.)
