In the market for a bachelor?

shanghaibachelorauction0904.jpgThen we have just the event for you: The 2006 International Bachelor Auction, this Sunday, September 10, at Pier One's Monsoon Bar. You can bid on a date with one (or more) of 20 eligible bachelors. All proceeds go to a great cause -- Shanghai Second Chance Animal Aid -- at a time when China's animals could sure use some aid. Admission is RMB 300 if you buy your tickets before Thursday, and RMB 350 after. That price includes a "walking dinner" (we assume that means a buffet) and two drinks.

Here is a note from one of the event's organizers:

How it works is that the bachelor has a few minutes to introduce themselves (after having milled around socializing beforehand), then women bid. Once "won", the bachelor chooses from a raffle a voucher for dinner/brunch. They arrange the time/date. If the woman backs out, bachelor gets to keep the voucher himself.

Some of the Shanghai restaurants that have donated vouchers include: Kathleen's, Laris, A Future Perfect, Azul, Indian Vintage, Senses, M on the Bund, Aegean, 239, Indalo and Omalley's.

We have been told that they already have enough bachelors, but if you would like to be put on the substitute list, you can contact them at 13818627235, 138178114433 or shanghaibachelors2006@gmail.com.

Monsoon, Pier One, 82 Yichang Rd, Near Jiangning Lu, Tel: 51558310.

Interesting timing, what with the hysteria about 'whores' chasing Chinabounder.

yeah, the chinese male crowd should love watching chinese women throw money at white guys.

I suppose there could be a diplomatic effort to auction dates with single, middle aged local, middle income local men and male peasant laborers, they'll all wear their best suits with the big fat label on the sleeve.

where did it say all the bachelors would be white?

The same place where it said all the bidders would be Chinese women.

Maybe in the fact that the flyer is all in English, and that it's being advertised on the English section of SmartShanghai and not on the Chinese one? And who does the RMB 300 ticket price suggest this event is aimed at?

I suppose just one instance of a Chinese 'whore' bidding for a 'garbage' white guy will be enough to get the riots going.

Interesting that this and similar openly publicised events will (rightly) get no hammering, yet private decisions of consenting adults do.

Well, I doubt the cast of white, male bachelors will consist of very few Tom Cruise, Pierce Brosnan or Brad Pitt lookalikes. More like Tom Bruise, Pierce Broadbutt and Brad Shitt, who all frequent Kangaroo bar, Hengshan road or simply trawl the company pond.

so you are saying that only chinese women can afford 300 RMB and read english? that makes sense. or are you saying that only white bachelors read english? that makes sense too.

some people, regardless of skin color or gender, don't mind spending a little money to help out a good cause.

some of us are gorgeous.

Yeah, some, but most definitely not you Aric ... you are very normal/average looking.
