Shanghai finishes the summer in style this weekend with a 40-strong DJ performance at Dino Beach under the guise of the Splash! music festival, kicking off at 3 pm this Saturday.
The city might have been graced with international names such as Richie Hawtin and Goldie in the past couple of weeks, but it’s the Shanghai-based crew who are putting on the show and proving that big names are not necessary to have a great time.
Over 40 performers will be spread out over two arenas, backed by “400,000 watts of Jurassic sound and light”, all adding up to 15 hours of sun, fun, water, sand, and music, according to the organizers.
Siesta, organiser of some of Shanghai’s most infamous Drum & Bass nights, said “Splash! Is definitely one event this summer which should not be missed. Come along and be part of Shanghai’s party movement and witness a truly passionate electronic music festival in the making.”
Around 3,000 revelers are expected to join in the event which marks the close of Shanghai’s outdoor party season. 2006 has indeed been a great summer for Shanghai and marked something of a transformation for the city. Now, thanks the hard work from some of the electronic scene’s most dedicated believers, thriving nights such as minimal and Drum and Bass nights are now available to enjoy.
Dino Beach is a leisure park in the southern suburbs of Shanghai but it isn’t too difficult to get to. Just take line one all the way to its terminal station, Xinzhuang, then take bus 753, 763 or 803 and you should find it before long.
