Shanghaiist Happy Hour Dinkum Drinks: Oi, Oi, Oi

shanghaiistdinkumdrinksSMAL.jpg
From the time we got our first Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue we have had a soft spot in our heart for Australia. What better way to celebrate our love of Australia's women culture than drinking their beers and wines (at greatly discounted prices)? And what better place to do this than Aussie-owned Senses Wine Lounge?

So here's the deal: Friday, Sept. 22, 7-11 pm; 2 for 1 on selected Aussie wines (normal prices start at 40 RMB) and 2 for 1 on Coopers beer (that's two bottles of one of the better brews found in Shanghai for RMB 30 ... we haven't seen a better deal in a long, long time). They will also be firing up the barbie (burgers and other meats at good prices) out on the patio, where they will be showing some Aussie movies (no, not Young Einstein). We'll be playing Men at Work's "Land Down Under" over and over and over Aussie music all night long -- and if you are lucky, Shamus might break out the ol' didjeridoo.

Also, feel free to dress up as your favorite Aussie. We're coming as Mathew Ryan.

See you in two weeks!

Be sure to hoist one, no, TWO for Steve Irwin - RIP mate...

As an Australian I cringed reading that poster. But I guess it's not as embarassing as Steve Irwin.

Australian motorsport champion, Peter Brock, died in a rally accident today. Brock was a well spoken gentleman, a true hero, and a true blue Aussie. That's one Australian I'll miss. The other Australians I'll miss will be at Senses on 22 Sept.

ps. I'm glad you have Cathy Freeman on the poster :) If you don't know her, check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnvqLEt05dA

It's very easy to categorise the people in the poster as those who would say "Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi" and those who would not.

Would say it: John Howard, Shane Warne, Steve Irwin and Russell Crowe (who is actually from NZ) ... that about says it all really ;-)

I'll be in the other crew with Kylie, Nicole, Natalie and presumably Elle ;-)

Maybe there should be a party for all the Sydney/Melbourne snobs ... oh wait, we already have the Glamour Room!

That said, I'll go to the Senses thing for the cheap grog ;-)

Great stuff. Coopers, very nice. I must just get along to this.

It might shock the rest of the world but Steve Irwin was never very famous in Australia until the last couple of years, and even then most people thought he was an over-acting too-sincere fool. He felt like a parody of Australianess.

Still he lived up to his passion, used all his money to buy wilderness and still lived in the same house his father built. He also once said the scariest thing ever was dealing with insincere movie executives. Steve, excrutiating to Australians like myself though he was, was the real deal. He was who he was. RIP

I wouldn't set foot in the place as long as they have that arsehole Howard on their poster!!

I'm so glad Cathy Freeman is out of the limelight now, can't stand her. The fact that they let her light the olympic cauldron was tokenism in the extreme and made me sick to my stomach.

But yeah, I might go along to sink a couple in memory of Irwin and Perfect Pete.

Isn't that the Great White Shark as well? Oh wait, it's just Mr. Shamus Sillar perfecting his "Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi" chant.
