Mao kicks the bucket, gang of four get purged, Deng kicks the bucket, his children effectively place themselves in exile down in Shenzhen to avoid the heat. Jiang Zemin goes and down fall his allies. Later Beijing gives them 15 - 25 years inside for economic crimes etc etc and then, surprise surprise, 2 or 3 years later they are quietly released for good behaviour after the initial publicity dies down and the "killing of the chicken to scare the monkey" example has run its course, and on and on it goes.
