Here’s our live podcast from the original (and, let’s be honest – only) multi-band show:
Speaking of Tanghui – despite some of our staff working for them as well – rumors are that they’re
Yuyintang – great set-up, warehouse feel, good relations with local musicians, cheap and comfy (albeit, not in the summer heat), but possibly too far out for those who think 17rmb in a taxi is too much.
BonBon – yes, we’ve heard your moaning of “but it’s a dance club”, etc. But who else picked up our request for one night a week to showcase underground bands? Big stage, loud sound system and the coolest toilets ever.
Live Bar – again, a 20-minute taxi ride, but having been taken over by Brad Ferguson of Shanghai Streets and GigShanghai fame, a live music house being run by an Austinite (who is rumored to have gotten fucked off with the builders, tore a wall down and built it himself) is bound to be a contender.
Shuffle – why it’s not doing well is beyond anyone’s imagination. Nice décor, yet still indie (well, except for that massive pillar in the front of the stage). Owner Boris seems to have more faith than most – which usually ends up being the most important.
…regardless, it’ll be interesting to see – here’s hoping everyone has said permits. Perhaps, in Qi Pu Lu fashion, we could buy in bulk?
