Wild Animal Olympics being held in Shanghai

Shanghaiist didn't read the Shanghai Daily closely enough on September 22, when they ran article about the Wild Animal Olympics that started this past Thursday and will supposedly run until late November. In fact, we didn't learn about it until today when we saw these pictures from Xinhua, including 3 year old chimpanzee Bao Bao, looking sharp in pinstripes. The Shanghai Daily article states that 10 year old elephant Mary will play in the soccer (football) games ... but against who? Other elephants? Chimps? Groundhogs? We can't help but think that such a game would literally be a bloody mess.
The events are being held in the Wild Animal Park in Nanhui.
