Why pay RMB 180 for tours in a hutong (old Chinese living quarters situated in narrow alleys) when you can do it yourself for free? Photo shows a Shanghai nongtang (sometimes pronounced as longtang) - the equivalent of Beijing hutongs. More photos of the local life in a longtang can be found here.
