Tipped by scRambler, we checked out Shanghai Daily's slick new Live in Shanghai website ... and we have to say we are impressed. Helpful and comprehensive, the site covers most of the basics any newcomer to the city would want to know. We wish a site like this existed, oh, four years and six weeks ago.
Live in Shanghai is split up into four major sections -- Fast Facts, Transport, Housing and, of course, Miscellaneous -- and also includes plenty of interactive features, like the "Dress up the Cabs" animation pictured above. The Shanghai Metro Map isn't too shabby, either.
Check out Live in Shanghai and let us know what you think. If nothing else, bloggers who get inundated with emails from people looking to move or travel to Shanghai can now simply respond: "Thanks for your email! I'm kind of busy at the moment, but you can probably find the information you are looking for at a cool new site called Live in Shanghai."

I found this on the Shanghai Daily website yesterday and think it is fantastic. On the subway section you can even print out easy to read charts of the fares instead of trying to read it on the ticket machines. Even has verbal pronunciation of helpful chinese words. Well done to Live in Shanghai
It's happy to see Live in Shanghai finally get online. You can find some very cute stuff like a flash shows how to get a bus ride or a number plate with pronunciation in both mandarin and Shanghainese. Actually I participated in the building of it during this summer as an intern at shanghaidaily.com I gotta say it's not an easy job to make such a site informative,accurate,good-looking and easy-following.
Yes.. its nice piece of work. Good info. Its all shiny and new and current right now. Hopefully it will be maintained and change as Shanghai is changing.
I almost missed this, wow! I've had a quick look at Live in Shanghai and it's an amazing start. The information needs to be a bit more personal, for instance on the housing section it reads "If you find your preferred houses and the agency which you can trust and rely on..." BUT It doesn't recommend WHO you can trust...for a newcomer in shanghai that would be the most essential information.
But I'm glad I've seen this site, I was thinking to make a website about the bus time table...now I won't bother - I will stick to cheap food. www.likealocal.cn
