OK, so maybe it’s because we’ve been trying to subsist on roasted peanuts and mooncakes (don’t ask why) for a Shanghai minute (however long that is), but recently, we’ve been racking our, erm, bellies as to where to find the best bargain buffet in town. And we do mean bargain—as in bang for buck. As in, sir may I have another—and another, and another—without breaking the bank. Before tonight, we thought it was Punjabi—the Indian restaurant (now at three locations) with smiling servers, all-you-can-guzzle-Tsingtao, and a better-than-average selection of South Indian staples ranging from Murgh Tikka Masala to Garlic Naan. All for the unbeatable price of 85 RMB. But after yet another evening where we were this close to swearing off food altogether, we can’t help thinking that there are perhaps less, uh, hearty alternatives. And, well, the dancing and loudspeakers are fab and marvy and all, but sometimes we just wanna fatten ourselves up in total silence, you know?
Our fellow foodies—and those who just like to get their grub on—where’s the best bargain buffet in the SH? Let the submissions begin, and may they come like our preferred (but alas, imperfect) consumption method—fast and furious.
