Shanghai graft scandal keeps going and going and ...

If we were a friend of Chen Liangyu (or even an acquaintance) we would be blogging from an undisclosed location with lax extradition laws. Well, we probably wouldn't be blogging -- maybe hiding -- but you get the idea. The dominoes just keep on falling in the Shanghai corruption scandal. The latest to be implicated? "Several" executives at Shanghai Electric Group, a major city-owned industrial umbrella corporation, and Yu Zhifei, general manager of the Shanghai circuit, the city's F1 track. Yu's mobile phone was "power off" yesterday -- smart man.

Yu, close friends with Shanghai's ousted Communist Party chief Chen, is being investigated for "illegal business operations" and the SEG guys are being looked at for a "violation of personal discipline." More information can be found here and here.

The Christian Science Monitor has an overview of the ongoing investigation and points out that when the Moller Villa says it is closed for "refurbishment," that means that government investigators from Beijing have turned the place into their Shanghai headquarters.
