Not sure what the seating arrangement will be like at JZ, but we got to Cotton Club around three hours early because we are losers were told we couldn't reserve seats ahead of time. So we chose a booth that looked nice and sat down. Moments later, we were told we couldn't sit there -- because that table was reserved. Huh? (There wasn't a "reserved" sign on the table.) We eventually sorted things out with the bar's super-cool, super-laid-back owner (sorry for raising our voice, Greg!) and we got our booth, but just warning you to be prepared for anything, as is generally the rule in China.
After that, however, service -- and, most importantly, the sound -- were all fantastic at Cotton Club. Try to get to JZ tonight if you can.
Got photos from last night? We'd love to see them. Email them to photos at shanghaiist.com or upload them to Flickr with the tag "shanghaiist."

Things to do on Sunday: A book talk and a bluegrass band

Dan,
Great Post!! The show was unbelievable.
What an amazing show.
I was eating dinner with some friends on Sunday when I found out they were in town again. I literally got up from the table, Cuban(sandwich) still in hand, and ran for a taxi. I got there just in time to snag some decent seats, though Dan's were better. (I was coveting your booth Dan, sorry) My dinner companions joined me with the other half of my Cuban(sandwich) and we knocked back a few Hoegardens while we waited for things to get started. It was worth the trouble.
I also went to the show last night at JZ and while it was not as good as the show at the Cotton Club, it was still an amazing experience.
On the off chance that any of the group of Aussie suits that were talking over the whole first half of the show at JZ are reading this, I hope you die in a fire.
The show was awsome! It is rare to see 4 so skillful musicians in the same room. a truely memorable evening.
