What’s Happening at Fringe Fest: Cognac and Sausages

Cognac%20and%20Sausages%2CRebecca%20and%20Athena03.jpgThere's been a media blackout of the Fringe Festival, and though we don't understand why, they told us that some government official said there is something wrong with their performance license (yeah right, take a wild guess why someone would say this and later flash green light for the festival).

Anyhow, the festival began last week without much media coverage. Therefore, in the spirit of supporting the Fringe Festival, we went to check out one of the shows yesterday: "Cognac and Sausages" by Athena Lamarre and Rebecca Leonard. We were actually at another show called “Stop” which was staged from Nov. 2-4, but we didn't like it at all since we think that any contemporary art that explains itself goes beyond the form of art, and if no one understands it, can seem like a pile of bullshit.

"Cognac and Sausages," a combination of aerial acrobatics, comedy and absurdity, by A Girl In The Sky Productions formed by the aerialist duo in 1999, was surprisingly good. The interaction with the audience was delightful, honest and humorous, meanwhile the performance was fantastic by layering the acrobatic technique beneath character and story. We likie!!!

The show really takes off when both of them take to the bar in the air, contorting themselves in ways the body is was not meant to be bent. The show is going to be performed until Nov 10 (that's today sorry!) at Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre. RMB100. RMB30 for students. Call 13918445734 or 62813901 to book your tickets.
