RSS feeds on your mobile phone

sonyericssonz610161106.jpgShanghaiist went gadget shopping today -- tired of carrying around the laptop to check emails and blogs, we are planning to upgrade our mobile phone. And we bumped into the Sony Ericsson Z610 (official link). This phone made us happy with its slim design and the nice glamour effect on the outside (despite business functionality, we want to stay fashionable -- gotta keep appearances up). The big surprise was the built-in RSS reader. Wow, keep yourself updated with Shanghaiist feeds on your mobile -- that is very convincing selling point! Actually, we didn't find any other brand offering this function (here a list of Sony Ericsson phones with RSS-reader).

Like most of the latest generation phones it comes with an MP3 player and a two megapixel camera. This allows you run around with one device instead of three. The phone has a nice internet browser that allows browsing normal websites and it has an email client. Here more details.

What is disappointing? The Z610 is not officially available in China. So you can only get it at gray-import electronic markets (about RMB 2,200) -- you can find these small shops either on the underground levels of People's Square or at the crossing of Fuxing Lu and Xiangyang Lu. Second, it comes only with a 64MB memory stick -- so you should upgrade to something larger to store your music and pictures (e.g. 1GB for RMB 600). Finally, for browsing the internet the screen (two inches) could be larger as well.

FYI. Shanghaiist does have a mobile version.

Carrefour had some cheap deals on non san disk SD Cards, about 300rmb for a 1gb disk.

Yeah, SD Cards are much cheaper. Due to size most of the new phones require new standards. This phone uses M2 - double the price...

Nokia also offers an RSS reader (I have one built in on my E61)

Hi Marc, thanks for your input. It's actually true that all (smart-)phones using Symbian OS will have a RSS-reader. Great to hear that they get shipped with this application.
BTW, do you use the RSS reader on your mobile?

As said by Tim latest symbian OS based mobile have the RSS reader. I just got the Nokia E70 and that's great. And for not really China available mobile you may want to check this one: www.forever8.cn .
