Shanghaiist is usually not one to promote bands... mainly because we just haven't seen any lately that we like... but we were in Beijing this weekend and caught a show by Beautiful Pharmacy, a folksy band consisting of two Chinese and two Kazakh musicians (insert Borat joke here... or not). We talked briefly with one of the members who mentioned they would be in Shanghai this weekend playing at 4Live. We immediately thought this show would be perfect for our readers; Shanghaiist was certainly put in a trance and found ourselves tapping our feet despite ourselves. Most of the songs we heard over the weekend were in Kazakh... or whatever language they speak over there. The crowd leaned heavily on the hippie side (this being Beijing) but their hypnotizing music should appeal to everyone.
There is some discrepancy over their name however. In Chinese, they're called "MeiHaoYaoDian". The flyer for 4Live calls them "Pharmacy Glamorous", even though the email header was "Glamorous Pharmacy." When Shanghaiist talked to them, they called themselves "Beautiful Pharmacy" and this was exactly how they were referred to in a previous entry. Shanghaiist prefers Beautiful Pharmacy but maybe the people at 4Live felt the need to play to Shanghai's chic image. Whatever they're called, be sure to check them out this weekend; they will be playing two shows.
Glamorous Pharmacy at 4Live, November 24th and 25th at 21:30. 60 RMB including one drink. 8 Jian Guo Zhong Lu

In Chinese, they're called "MeiHaoYaoDian".
O Shanhaiisters, please, pretty please, don't join the AddExTraCaPiTalLettErsAndRunEvEryThingToGeTherAsIfItWereJustOneLongWord crowd.
Following the rules of Hanyu Pinyin makes life much easier: "In Mandarin, they're called 'Meihao Yaodian'."
Why spruce it up? Happy Pharmacy fits. Pharmacies are especially happy when they dispense goodies.......
anyone go last night? any good?
