Last night, like every Sunday night, would normally be Coco Zhao’s regular show at JZ with his Possicobilities band. However, unlike most other Sunday nights, last night Coco himself wasn’t able to make it due to illness, but his band faithfully played without their fearless leader. Later in the evening they were joined by a few other musicians including Erica Li (of JZ regular Wednesday night fame) and Fox the sax/flute man.
After the Possicobilities band finished their third set, Natural Jazz of current House of Blues and Jazz fame took the stage. Now it’s not a strange thing to have jams after the regular show at JZ, but this was a special show — and there was a pretty full house to enjoy it as well. They were borrowing the stage, so to speak, in order to film the set so they can make a new promo DVD. Why not film at the place they usually work? Well, only because the big pillar right in the center of the stage isn’t that photogenic. Otherwise I’m sure they would have.
Their singer Cici told me that they are hoping to improve upon the demo video they currently use to find contracts, so they can line up a great gig to start after they finish playing Blues and Jazz at the end of January.

Any reviews of Cici & Natural Jazz? House of Blues & Jazz are a bit inconsistent in their bookings - some great, some dreadful. Pls let us know, honestly.
I absolutely know what you mean about B&J's bookings. Hard to know if they will be good or not--but this time I will say this one is. I fully stand by my rather positive review of this group. They aren't like some of the recent raucous blues bands that have played there over the last year, but are actually very musical and say something with their music.
