Winning US-China route to be announced this month

continentalpilot120406.jpgBack in August, we told you about all of the airlines vying for a new US-to-China flight route. And then in September, we told you we (well, some of us) were selfishly pulling for Continental. Well, over the weekend, the Continental pilots union backed the airline's Newark-to-Shanghai proposal — which is good ... you don't want a disgruntled pilot manning your 14-hour flight.

But that's not the real news. This is: "The U.S. Transportation Department is expected to decide on carriers in the next few weeks." We had been wondering when we would hear which airline/route was the winner. Now we know (kind of).

The new flights are expected to begin in the spring.

What funny is that NWA is bidding for this route also, but they already have the rights to do none stop DTW/MSP -> PVG but they choose not to.

What a crock of.....
