Movie Screening: Robert Altman's Short Cuts

robertaltmanshortcutsshanghai.jpgA lot of folks over at Shanghaiist are movie buffs of varying degrees, and we thought it might be nice to have a place where people can get together and watch and then discuss films over drinks. The folks over at Meiwenti Productions, who run the local DV filmmaking competitions you might have heard of, were into that idea as well, so here we are: ARCH cafe, Thursday, December 7. The movie you'll be watching is Robert Altman's Short Cuts (US, 1993). Altman passed away a couple of weeks ago and we thought we'd show one of his films as a small tribute (and we didn't have any better ideas).

The basic format is 1. Watch movies and 2. Talk about them afterwards. We'll try to structure the discussion, but nothing too formal. We might invite some folks to be "panelists," and if we screen works by local filmmakers, we might try to get the directors to show up. In general, it'll just be a good way to (intelligently?) let off some steam during the middle of week and see some films on the big slightly larger screen.

While real journalists ask "who, what, where, why, when, and how," the failed journalists at Shanghaiist ask, first and foremost, "drink special?" (because we ain't braving the cold without the one). ARCH has kindly allowed the moviegoers (note: not all customers) to deduct 20% from their drink bill through the night.

See you in the basement of ARCH in two days. The seating is a bit limited, so come early if you can!

Movie Screening: Robert Altman's Short Cuts, Time: 7:30 pm, Address: ARCH, 439 Wukang Lu, Phone: 64660807, Drinks: 20 percent off the whole night.
