You give lard a bad name

yucktokyo120506.jpgIf you are eating right now, please stop reading immediately. This story is disgusting:

China has arrested the manager of a factory which used grease from swill, sewage and recycled industrial oil to make edible lard ...

Health officials also detected "toxic pesticide" in lard produced by the Fanchang Grease Factory in Taizhou, in the eastern coastal province of Zhejiang ...

While we'd love to have a "Fanchang Grease Factory" T-shirt, this news has caused us to inch closer to the all-sandwich-and-breakfast-cereal diet we have dreamed about since childhood. What's really awesome is that this toxic swill was distributed "across the country" to hotels, restaurants and retail outlets. You may not purchase much lard on your own, but who knows what goes on in kitchens throughout the country. This story makes it seem like some of the tainted lard became cooking oil and we all know that is used liberally in most local establishments.

So, want to meet up for dinner later? We'll just be sure to drink plenty of baijiu — enough of that stuff will kill anything growing inside you.

Didn't Soft Cell write a song about this? Tainted Lard (oo oooOOOOoooo)
As punishiment for that terrible joke, I can't get the song out of my head now....

Reading that makes me even happier that almost everything I eat comes from my lard-free kitchen.
