Michael Ohlsson is an American living in Shanghai. He's a DJ named Ozone. He writes about Shanghai's music scene for City Weekend. And, like many people we know, he eats meals ever day. On his Weird Meat blog (where he writes about eating, um, weird things) he recently posted a list of restaurants he likes in Shanghai. It's not meant to be a definitive list, but he does say he has worked as a food critic and knows "good food." Anyway, lists like this are always good conversation starters, and who knows — you may discover a great place you didn't know about before.
Here is the abridged version of his list (for the full write-ups, visit Weird Meat):
1. Charmant (Taiwanese Chinese)2. Hengshan Cafe (Cantonese)
3. Lisboa Macau Restaurant (Macau)
4. Jimix: Seve (Italian, Pizza)
5. Vedas (north Indian)
6. Shanghai Uncle (Shanghai fusion)
7. Saleya (French bistro)
8. Yuxin (Sichuan Chinese)
9. Rendevouz (Singapore/Penang Malaysian) [We couldn't find a link for this place and we don't know if "Rendezvous" is misspelled on purpose.]
Got a list of your own? Post it in a comment.

I haven't heard of any of those places...
I would like to add Dongbei Ren
It's "Rendezvous Cafe"

Anyone who says they "know good food" is a pretentious tosser. Plus 'worked as a food critic' = had no particular skills or talent, so wrote about food. But enough of the character assassination.
Charmant - it's great as everyone knows.
Rendezvouz is absolutely f**king sh*te.
Pretty sure it is not Rendezvous Cafe since he says it is a Singaporean restaurant in the Grand Gateway Mall.
Shanghai Uncle isn't so bad, at least its clean and neat, and the food isn't THAT oily. Probably the only edible shanghainese style restaurant in town.
@ Pete - yes thanks for the reminder, it's been a while since we were at Dongbei Ren ... going next week again.
@ Fred - Rendezvouz is hit and miss, yes, and it seems the quality is going down after they opened with really good stuff. In fact, I'll replace it soon as I find something better. Fixed the mispelling, btw, thanks.
And regarding "know good food/critic" -- suppose that's a bit lazy on my part but I don't feel the need to elaborate in this case, I just wanted to tell my readers I'm not a rookie -- and I'm sick of reading responses like "you don't like/know chinese food?"
YUXIN is the only place in the list i have been to,its "SHUI ZHU YU" is my favorite.
