<description>&lt;p&gt;While New Delhi may be the &quot;smelliest&quot;, and once was the dirtiest, the city has taken aggressive steps to reduce pollution (including the use of CNG vehicles) and left Beijing atop the dust heap.

The rankings for particulate pollution (soot, dust, fine particles), which is most associated with respiratory problems and premature death, are as follows: Beijing, Kathmandu, Dhaka, New Delhi, Calcutta, and Shanghai.
