We swear we heard the PA system announce yesterday that we were at Jinjiang Park metro stop, when we knew we were at Huangpi Nan Lu (and so did everyone else — lots of confused faces). We assumed the metro just got its sound files mixed up ... but could it have been someone's mobile phone ringtone?
Micah tipped us off to a RAR file online that contains high-quality mp3 files of 19 "We are now at ..." announcements used on Metro Line One. Hit play on the ebedded player below to hear the announcement for Shanghai Railway Station. Unfortunately, the English portion on the Changshu Lu announcement (the station closest to Shanghaiist headquarters) is cut off slightly on the end — we were thinking about rocking that on our Siemens.

UPDATE: We are aware that the embedded sound file plays at the wrong speed — something to do with the sample rate not meshing with the embeddable player. Download the file yourself an it should play OK on your computer.
UPDATE 2: This should work for you — "What you hear when you arrive at 19 of the 25 metro stops along Line No. 1 in Shanghai, played in order from north to south."
