A case of sleeping with the enemy?

Spot the differences (or similarities!), and we're not talking about the colour honey!

Not so long after General Motors Daewoo sued Chery for the imitation of its Spark minicar in its design of the QQ, Chrysler has announced it will jointly develop a new joint venture brand with Chery, one of China's top ten automakers. Interestingly, a report by the world's favourite news agency describes Chery as "one of the few Chinese companies that successfully produce their own models instead of manufacturing foreign brands under a licence". Oohlala!

1. GM got threatened by Beijing for "baseless accusations" against one of China's star companies.

2. The QQ was such a good copy GM thinks it can save itself from Toyota-Godzilla and Honda-Rodan by licensing ultra cheap cars and gutting more of its US, Canadian and Mexican workforce. US executives will just never learn.

Perhaps you could line up all the copycat cars in China?

I like the SMART car best. It is carbon copy look alike.

And I like the title of this post. Perhaps more international companies should take note China chooses suckers as their sleeping partners.
