How to use (and contribute to) our link aggregator
About six months ago, we introduced the user-generated Shanghaiist Contribute page. Here is what we said back then:
- Share Links: Using popular bookmarking website del.icio.us, you can tell other Shanghaiist readers about news stories, websites and other wonderful stuff on the internet that you think they might find interesting, entertaining or useful. All you have to do is tag a link with for:shanghaiist and it will automatically appear on our Contribute page. For information on how to get started, visit del.icio.us.
- Share Photos: Any photo you tag with shanghaiist on Flickr, our favorite photo sharing website, will automatically appear on this page, as well. (Shanghaiist readers have been doing this for a while now, but the Contribute page now replaces our old Photos page.)
- Share an Anonymous Tip: Is a car accident blocking traffic on Huaihai Lu? Is Zara having a big sale? Did you find out the yang rou chuan guy on your corner is really serving cat meat? Let Shanghaiist readers know!
The photo portion of the page has been a big success. People have been sharing some really great shots. See for yourself.
In 2007, we're really going to try to increase usage of the "Send Us A Link" section of the page, because it has the potential to be very useful tool — a great way to share links and to see what other links Shanghaiist readers are finding interesting on the web.
Getting started on del.icio.us is simple, just visit the site and they will walk you though the process. After you get signed up, any link you "tag" with for:shanghaiist will appear on the Shanghaiist Contribute page.
For Firefox users, sharing links is even easier thanks to the great del.icio.us Bookmarks add-on.
If you have any questions, just let us know. Remember, sharing is good.
