Jiading District gets wireless broadband first
Last October, Shanghai Daily announced plans for a city-wide wireless broadband network:
Once completed, it will be the first citywide wireless broadband network on the Chinese mainland, the commission officials said.Shanghai Telecom Co Ltd and China Mobile's Shanghai Branch have signed agreements with the commission to invest a total of 40 billion yuan (US$5 billion) to improve local IT infrastructure, including the wireless network.
"Every one can access the broadband network at anytime from anywhere in the city," the commission said in a statement posted on its Website yesterday.
This network should be completed in time for (of course) the Expo2010.
And now, according to yesterday's People's Daily Jiading might be the first one to get this coverage:
Jiading is famous as the venue for Formula One Chinese Grand Prix. It was chosen by a non-profit think tank Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) recently as one of the 21 winners of the Intelligent Community Awards.
The report mentions Jiading should be covered with wireless broadband by end of this year. Despite other reports mentioning that Jiading "a booming district in downtown Shanghai", it is, in fact, about 20km outside of the center of Shanghai. We guess most of our readers wont be able to benefit from this new project.
