Antidote 17: The show must go on ...

SHist-antidote17.jpgLocal digital music collective Antidote is throwing its 17th monthly gong show tonight.

Shanghaiist always looks forward to these nights for the generally solid music selection (electroclash and rock-tech hybrids designed to make that booty shake), wicked crowd (in many other cities, you might call 'em "indie hipsters" but Shanghai seems neither indie nor hip enough for that label to apply...thank god), and bang-on vibe.

Check out this video from Ooyo for a taste of what to expect. It's of their birthday party back in September.

The man you see smooching the camera at roughly 1:50 is none other than Antidote founder Michael "Sexy Sundays" Ohlsson. (Why the sexy? See—warning: shameless plug—this month's Shanghai Talk and be enlightened.) Unfortunately, the Shanghai indie scene stalwart will be missing tonight. Word on the street is he's a-frolicking in India. We hope the fearless foodie doesn't eat any turtles there.

Not only is Ohlsson gone, but another regular on the Antidote roster will also be MIA. Indeed, Kid Plastik, he of Klash Dance fame, was recently shipped back to the States for mysterious reasons. Fret not, Shanghaiist is looking into the case.

Still, the show must go on. B6, MHP, Shanghai_Ultra, Boya and Fish will be holding down the fort tonight at C's. For those that have not yet been to this fantastic dive on Dingxi Lu, tonight's a good a night as any to start.

As usual, there is no cover and all drinks are RMB 10 (!). Needless to say, the Friday morning aftermath won't be pretty.

Antidote 17. C's Bar. 685 Dingxi Lu, between Fahuazhen Lu and Yanan Lu. Doors at 9pm, goes til the cows come home. Free entry. For more info, email antidote8@gmail.com
