Well, here are two options:

• If you were on Metro Line No. 1, perhaps you were delayed because a woman in her 20s fell ill and then fell onto the tracks at Pengpu Xincun Station, up north. This happened at 6:52 am. The train stopped "meters away from her" and she is now in "stable condition." Shanghai Daily didn't mention how long this shut down traffic.
• If you were on Line No. 2, at around 8:49 am, you could have been stuck in the same spot for 20 minutes ... because some idiot pulled the emergency brake while the train was somewhere between People's Square and Nanjing Dong Lu. Shanghai Daily claims this was the first time a passenger has activated the emergency brakes since the city's metro started running in 1993. (Really?) Xinhua ensures us that "Shanghai police are hunting for the troublemaker," but they also said Line No. 2 is the one "linking the Hongqiao International Airport with the Pudong New District."
