Cui Jian to play live at JZ Club, Jan. 29

Yes, that Cui Jian. The godfather of Chinese rock. The one some call "China's Bruce Springsteen." The guy they put on the cover of the first Chinese Rolling Stone. The guy who last year shared a Shanghai stage and accompanied (kind of) Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones.

Yes, that guy is playing an intimate gig Monday night at JZ Club, and we wouldn't have known about it had we not walked past the place and seen a poster. Tickets are 200 RMB. The show starts at 9 pm. For ticket info, call 64310269. We have to imagine tickets won't last long — JZ holds 200-300 tops.

UPDATE: We are not sure if Cui Jian will be playing guitar or trumpet at JZ, which is primarily a jazz club. From his Wikipedia bio:

Cui Jian grew up in a musical family in Beijing — his father was a professional Korean trumpet player and his mother was a member of a Korean dance troupe. Cui Jian himself started playing the trumpet at the age of fourteen and joined the Beijing Philharmonic Orchestra in 1981, at the age of twenty.
