This brilliant plan to use pollution eating paint also doesn't into account the pollution that will be caused by such a massive paint job. The chemicals that keep a paint a liquid aren't exactly harmless.

jeremy: sorry, i thought the problem was something else but it was a missing after all! boya: yeah i was trying to be funny. transitions aren't my strength, but i was trying to combine a bunch of environment related links into a post, esp. the one about the paint is related to Shanghai. foo: i noticed taiwan's color as well. I don't see how glacial melting in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is necessarily a sign of China's enivronmental failings.... Did anyone see the green hills of Davos this year?

Yeah, the mention of pollution eating paint after the mention of the excellent German article is laughable. I hope you were trying to be funny because if not, its alarming. Its like saying we can fix the problem of rampant prostitution in china by giving out free nail polish on Julu lu...

Pollution eating paint, except it will have to be re-applied regularly, probably more regularly with heavier pollution concentrations. And salts tend to break up "dissociate" in water. Shanghai still has lots of rain...and already has plenty of pollution without adding sulfur and nitrogen salts to the mix, yummy. Nice of that chinese academic to make rosy predictions that he and his colleagues won't be around to be held accountable to.
