A while ago we stopped getting those helpful reminders from China Mobile when our cellphone started approaching zero in the funds department. After a couple months of sheepish thank you's to the wife for helping us recharge, we thought it was about time to get them back.
It turns out to be a simple matter of sending an SMS of "10086" to 10086, China Mobile's customer service number and navigating the Chinese-only menus. We discovered that the essential steps are as follows:
1. Send "1113" to 10086.
2. Wait to get a message back.
3. Reply with a number to choose when you want to be notified, "1" at a balance of 30 RMB, "2" at 15 RMB and "3" at 5 RMB.
That's it. Another handy function is to send "101" to 10086 to check your remaining balance.

Thanks Micah!
thanks! i was wondering where those notices had gone to. but i just tried the '101' message to 10086, and it didn't quote my balance - it just gave a list of 7 other services. hu hum...!
Try "yecx" to 10086. It gives you the balance.
What about HFCX to 10086? does anyone use that?
I've used it before, but don't really understand the responses very well. it gives 2 replies, neither of whose meaning is very clear to me, and I can read all the characters. It still just seems rather nonsensical to me, though.
help?
Steven: strange, it still works for me. Make sure you're sending 101 and nothing else (that one-zero-one).
Jeremy: It's a summary of your last month's phone bill. The first line is the date, the second is the total charges, and below (including the second text message) is a line-by-line list of the different fees.
do u ppl have other useful tips?
thanks a lot for these ones.. i just realize that i only have 15 kuai in my cell :)
Great stuff, thanks! :D
Is there an option to turn those sms' off, though? Getting 5 reminders a day isn't my idea of fun.
Bob Chippens: good call, that's a very necessary thing to know. Send "1114" to 10086 to cancel the above service.
