Fancy an unfancy sandwich?

mrfrancks-sandwich.jpgThe editors of Shanghaiist have been accused of spending too many words on sandwiches, and if we examine the evidence we have to admit the accusations are not ungrounded.

But we can't resist, so let's keep this short and sweet.

Inside exit 10 of the People's Square Line 2 metro station, a new bistro (that may or may not be French) called Mr Franck's Sandwiches sells budget sandwiches for the working class. Sandwiches are extremely simple: our Tomato Beef sandwich was mayo, lettuce, hard-boiled egg, tomato and what basically amounted to beef spaghetti-sauce on a refreshingly unsweetened oversized 8" hot dog bun. For RMB 8. That was the small size--the menu lists small and large ranging from RMB 7 to 25, but the friendly staff told us that they don't have large sandwiches right now.

The environment is low-budget minimalist, but may improve with time as they currently seem to be in a growing stage. Best to bring a piece of fruit, grab your sandwich and head to People's Park for a picnic lunch.

Oh, and free refills on coffee. Bon appétit!

Here we go with the sandwiches again - not just this but I note an advert on your site featuring a sandwich from some American diner sort of place.

Why not admit defeat and relocate to Sandwichiist.com
