Having just spent some time in Denmark ourselves, we were delighted to discover that some great Danish musicians would be arriving in Shanghai to play so soon after our return. These guys are quite well-known in Denmark and Europe, having recorded and toured around the world a bit. When we asked our Danish friends about these guys, they said that drummer Emil de Waal is famous as a player of every kind of music, not just jazz. It appears from the press release for the tour on the promoter’s website that he will be playing by himself with computer(s) acting as the rest of the band. Sounds interesting. We believe he’s the type of player who can hold up a show like this on his own, just judging from his reputation.
As for Bandapart, our Danish music informants had heard of the group but weren’t sure who was playing in it (we didn’t have the names handy at the time either) so we don’t have any special scoop on them. However it appears from the press on their website, etc. that they won’t be disappointing us.
The two bands are playing double bills at two venues in town before they head off to other locales to play:
Sat, March 3: at 4 Live, add: 8 Jianguo Zhong Lu
Sun, March 4: at JZ Club, add: 46 Fuxing Xi Lu
Bandapart’s website has them listed as also playing the Cotton Club in town, as well as JZ Hangzhou, but we can only guess that it is wrong and has not been updated...since the promoter’s website doesn’t mention either of those two venues in the press release. It appears they will only be moving on to Beijing for more shows after they leave Shanghai.
