This happened early yesterday morning on Tianshan Xi Lu. near Suining Lu in Changning District, according to this report:
The 110 police call center received the alert at 2:50am when another taxi driver who happened to be passing by the scene noticed a body lying lifeless on the street.According to witnesses, the man was found lying on the ground about two meters away from his vehicle. He allegedly had multiple stab wounds and was covered in blood.
The victim, estimated to be around 40 years old, worked for the Qiangsheng Taxi Company (that's the yellow one).
The short Shanghai Daily report provided no further details, and a search of Chinese sources offered no new information.
We did a little digging to see what Shanghai's murder rate was, and the only related things we found were another Shanghai Daily story that only had some national figures and this blog post, which basically says there are no good statistics available.

anyway, i still think shanghai is a safer city in China.
This poor taxi driver probably lost his life over an argument about what the fare should have been. Or the murderer just didn't want to pay and the driver got out of his taxi to argue. What a waste. It's not worth it to get into a struggle with locals, I think many of them carry knives. Better to only fight if you must defend yourself. Not worth it to lose your life over a lousy 11 rmb.
