X Games Asia coming to Shanghai May 3-5

We hinted at this several days ago, but we didn't say more because the story we found didn't include some crucial information (like a location). But yesterday a friend who works for ESPN.com forwarded us the event's press release, which you can read here. There we learn that "[m]ore than 200 of the world’s top action sports athletes from more than 20 countries and five continents will compete in the three-day event and feature multiple disciplines, including Aggressive In-Line Skate, Skateboard, BMX Freestyle, Sport Climbing as well as a Moto X demonstration." But more importantly, we find out where all of this will happen — Yangpu District's Jiangwan Stadium.

"Jiangwhat Stadium?" is perhaps what some of you are thinking right now. A little searching shows that Jiangwan Stadium is a 40,000 seater opened in 1935 that recently underwent a US$12.5 million renovation. It's also got a 3,500-seat gymnasium and and an indoor pool that can hold 5,000 spectators. Also, "The main entrance of the stadium consists of three arched gates — similar to those of Tian'anmen Square in Beijing. Above the gates are the Chinese traditional 'Pailou,' or intricate etchings." The expanse inside the outdoor stadium is said to be equal to "the size of three soccer fields."

This site claims to have ticket information for the event: RMB 120 per day (RMB 50 for students). They also say musical acts will include Yu Siyuan, Wang Xiaokun and The Flowers.

The stadium is just north of Wujiaochang. Here are directions to the venue via subway from People's Square to Jiangwan Station on Line 3 and then bus to the stadium.

The official site of X Games Asia will be kiaxgamesasia.com, but there is not much there now.
