"Shanghai's downtown Changning district?"

Downtown Shanghai? Does everyone commute from Sheshan now?

guys, when i passed the scene yesterday at 23.30 a mobile crane was about to do some work... will check today again. traffic in this area was terrible the whole day...

I used to live on Xuanhua Rd. I'm still bitter at this construction site for tearing down the Hello Pizza that used to be located there.

This location is just one subway stop from Jing'an Temple. So yes, this part of Changning District should definitely be considered downtown.

There's new report from The Shanghai Daily...

Another 500-ton crane was dispatched to the scene to remove the dangling arm and the crisis was finally resolved late last night.

Road block continues as crane's arm still in air

COMMUTERS and drivers should avoid the intersection of Jiangsu Road and Xuanhua Road in downtown Changning District as the traffic there is still blocked due to a huge crane's arm that has been dangling off a building for more than 24 hours.

The arm suddenly smashed into the newly-constructed Qifa Mansion when workers were trying to dismantle the huge machinery, and it remained suspended in the air 90 meters above the ground from about 10am yesterday.

No one was injured, said the local traffic authority. Dozens of neighboring residents were evacuated as a safety precaution.

Another 500-ton crane was dispatched last night to the scene to remove the dangling arm.

However, the workers made little progress as Chen Chao, a nearby resident, told Shanghai Daily this morning that the dangling arm almost remained at the same place where it started.

"Several police cars are still around the scene to keep everyone at a distance," Chen said. "The south section of Jiangsu Road was almost empty around 9am as no vehicles are allowed on that stretch."

Engineers launched emergency measures to fasten heavy objects onto the 25-story mansion, to prevent the hanging arm from falling.

ROFL @ hank ... well said, buddy.
