7:30 am, Yanchang Lu Station, Line One:
A 24-year-old man jumped off a platform in front of a train at Yanchang Road Station on Metro Line 1 this morning but only suffered broken toes, according to Shanghai Metro police.
The man was waiting for train with his father and grandfather about 7:30am, when he suddenly jumped into the tunnel as a train was pulling in.
Police said he tried to commit suicide because of stress from work. But onlookers said he was pushed. An investigation, supposedly, is underway. (link)
7:30 am, Xinzhuang Station, Line One:
The man, at around 20, who was waiting for the train at Xinzhuang Station on Shanghai’s metro Line One at 7:30 am, suddenly slipped onto the rail while a train was arriving, a cleaner who had witnessed the scene said. A passenger sounded the alarm immediately, while the train rolled just over the man.
According to some passengers’ description, the victim was pushed forward on the platform and lost balance, as he was standing in front of a big crowd during the commute hour.
He was seriously injured. (link)
7:30 am, Lingling Lu construction site, Line Seven:
An accident at a subway construction site in Shanghai early on Tuesday has claimed the life of a construction worker, police and witnesses said.
The accident occurred at 7:30 a.m. during construction of Shanghai’s No. 7 subway, a 33.3-km mass transit line linking the outer Baoshan District with the booming Pudong New District, local police told Xinhua.
The victim suffered fatal head injuries when a cement structure collapsed at the work site on Lingling Road, near the Huangpu River, a witness said.
