The announcement below is from composer and arranger John Huie, who produced the Shanghai Jazz CD. The music from this disc was featured in the Hollywood production The White Countess, which was filmed in Shanghai, and features many of Shanghai's best local musicians playing John's arrangements of music from dancehall-era Shanghai.
The album John is celebrating the release of this weekend, New Shanghai, also features lots of Chinese musicians, in both the jazz and traditional Chinese music realms. However the new disc also saw the addition of some sounds from Shanghai-based foreign jazz musicians. With this album he has focused on original compositions rather than old Shanghai dancehall standards, while continuing to explore a fusion of Western Jazz with Chinese sounds.
Australian composer John Huie and members of the Yellow Music Ensemble present works from the newly released CD New Shanghai. The music fuses Chinese and western instruments into a contemporary jazz music arena.Concert Featuring - Nicholas Bouloukos- piano, Feng Yu- gu zheng, Huang Beixing- cello and John Huie-guitar
