Cirque du Soleil brings Quidam to Shanghai

Shanghai's Science and Technology Museum is getting somewhat of a workout of late. Firstly, it hosted perhaps 2007's biggest bash, and then the news that Canadian entertainers Cirque du Soleil will perform their long-running Quidam show at the museum forecourt from June 28th.

The shows will be performed inside a huge tent at a 2,000-square-meter site across from the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum in Pudong. Shanghai will be the only stop for the popular Canadian outfit that blends music, theatre, acrobatics and dance based on traditional circus arts. The group has performed in front of more than 50 million people.

Shanghaiist is excited about this. We were always in the wrong place at the wrong time whenever Cirque du Soleil toured Australia. Now, we will have a good chance at seeing this famous circus live. Shanghai residents might bleat about lack of entertainment choices, but in the realm of circus and acrobatics, we are truly blessed. There are two permanent circus and acrobatic troupes resident in Shanghai (Era and Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe), and we are also in the middle of another season of the Shaolin Soul Kung Fu spectacular. But with Cirque du Soleil hitting Shanghai, we will now get to see how the big daddy of them all stacks up to the local talent.

Big draws like Kylie, LiveEarth, The Roots and Sonic Youth! Wow! It finally appears that Shanghai is starting to become a major draw card on the world's (currently) popular entertainment circuit. If only we could attract these guys to China shores, and this Australian would be in seventh heaven.

Official prices range from RMB150 to RMB2000 per ticket. Shanghaiist is also wondering what the ticket scalpers will sell them for.
