Stand-up comedy tomorrow night

Has the destruction of Wujiang Lu got you down? Need a quick picker-upper? If so, you might think about heading down to Henry's Brewery & Grill for a nice dose of comedy to turn that frown upside down. Does Henry's sound familiar to you, oh dearest reader? That's because it will also be the host of Shanghaiist next Happy Hour. Okay, that's enough self-promoting.

paulprovenza.jpgThis isn't the first time there's been some stand-up comedy on (or near) The Bund. A couple years ago, comedians Jim Gaffigan and Ian Bagg performed at Three on the Bund (and we're pretty sure some other guys performed elsewhere at some point, too). This year, the ChopSchticks (get it?) event is at a new location with new comedians, and on at a new date: Friday the 13th! Performing tomorrow night will be veteran comedian Paul Provenza (director of The Aristocrats), with Jamie Kilstein as the opening act.

Among Paul Provenza's credits are his multiple appearances on TV shows including, Northern Exposure (he's the guy who took over for seven episodes afetr Rob Morrow left the show), The West Wing, The Daily Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The Late Show with David Letterman, among others. Shanghaiist also enjoys Paul's work as an occasional guest on NPR's "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me". While not as famous as Paul, Jamie Kilstein is one of the America's "fastest rising young comics" and hails from Pennington, New Jersey (very, very close to Shanghaiist's former stomping grounds). You can check out his MySpace page for more information.

If you can't make the show tomorrow night, but happen to be in Beijing this weekend, you can catch these two funny guys Saturday night at the Beijing International City School.

The Comedy Tour presents ChopSchticks: Paul Provenza and Jamie Kilstein
8pm Friday, April 13 @ Henry's Brewery & Grill (四川中路33号近广东路).

Tickets: 250RMB at door, 220RMB until tonight (Thursday night). Tickets can be delivered at you via Sherpa's at 6209 6209.
